Lois M. Dauway, a member of the Central Committee and Executive Committee of the World Council of Churches, has been honoured for outstanding ecumenical service as this year's recipient of the J. Irwin Miller Award from the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA (NCCUSA). The award is given annually to a lay person in the US who has borne witness to Christian values while demonstrating commitment to church unity.

Lois Dauway serves the United Methodist Church as interim deputy general secretary for mission and evangelism in that church's General Board for Global Ministries.

In a congratulatory letter the Rev. Dr Samuel Kobia, general secretary of the WCC, wrote: "You truly deserve this recognition, along with the heartfelt thanks of the ecumenical movement for your leadership through the years."

"We in the World Council of Churches are familiar with the outstanding service you render the one Church of Jesus Christ, the personal courage and commitment that you dedicate to the cause of Christian unity, mission, justice and peace," the letter continues.
