The Parish of Terre Sainte/Céligny welcomed the Bossey cohort on 25 September for a social evening.
The activities started with an apéritif, followed by peaches, dinner, tasting of local cheese and wine, and the cutting of an anniversary cake.
Conveying the wishes of the parish, Pastor Linda Libuet said, “Eighty years is long enough to show that something is truly enduring. For us, it is a sign of the enduring strength of the universal church, of which, thanks to the institute and the students we meet year after year, we are able to gain a glimpse.”
She said that Bossey is immensely valuable for the small local parish, giving the community a window into the church that is far greater, broader, and richer than what they encounter in their daily experience.
Reflecting on the evening, the parish coordinator of the gathering, Alexa Trochu, added that Bossey, “is a very special place where people can live, study, pray, exchange ideas, and learn from one another despite their differences.”
Especially in the world we live in today, she added, places that encourage dialogue, understanding, and friendship are more important than ever. “So congratulations on this remarkable anniversary,” she said. “And thank you very much for allowing our local community to be part of these celebrations. We are very honored and very happy to celebrate with you.”
The celebration continued on 27 September with a prayer service at the Temple de Céligny.
In their message, the parish council said: “We trust that what you learn at Bossey will help you foster the ecumenical spirit, which we desperately need in these times of turmoil. Let’s not forget it is an important landmark this year, as Bossey is celebrating its 80th anniversary. We thank the Lord for having supported the institute for so long and pray it will continue to thrive and grow.”
Students were subsequently invited to different families in the parish for lunch.
