Rev. Dr Hyunju Bae delivered a sermon entitled “The Way of Love” on the WCC Assembly theme “Christ’s love moves the world to reconciliation and unity.”
Bae’s reflection emphasized the importance of love, Christ’s love, as the foundation of a mutual commitment to justice, peace and the integrity of creation.
Christ’s love is the food for pilgrims in their uphill struggle for justice, peace and the integrity of creation, Bae noted.
WCC president for Asia, Rev. Dr Sang Chang gave a benediction for both the participants and the WCC’s preparation of the upcoming assembly. Prayers focused on COVID-19, the climate crisis, peace and justice, hatred and discrimination, and Inequalities.
The group will, from now until at least June 2022, convene monthly meetings for prayer, reflection, and discussion of various topics and issues. The next meeting, on 28 July, will focus on “Korean Churches and the Society after COVID-19.”
The Christian Academy is a historical ecumenical agency in Korea. Through the initiative, Korean church leaders hope to mobilize younger generations and support their active participation in the WCC 11th Assembly and the ecumenical movement in general.
