Convened under the auspices of the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s Network for Pastoral Ministry in the Field of Health, the conference brought together over 200 participants from more than 30 countries across five continents, including representatives from churches, theological institutes, and the health professions.
Rev. Dr Stavros Kofinas, moderator of the WCC Commission on Health and Healing, also serves as the coordinator of the Patriarchal Network for Pastoral Health Care. He led the overall coordination of the event.
Discussions focused on what constitutes a “healthy society” today, and how the church, community, and healthcare systems collectively contribute to it. Participants also explored access and equity in health, addressing quality of care, dignity, and the social determinants of health. Among other topics, they also focused on innovation, digital health, and ethical questions, highlighting the importance of human-centred technology.
Three members of the WCC Commission of the Churches on Health and Healing, as well as the director of the commission, Dr Manoj Kurian, also contributed to the conference.
