Inaugural Bishop Samuel Amirtham Memorial Lecture will reflect on lessons and legacy

He will reflect on “Five Lessons I Learned From Bishop Samuel Amirtham.” Ariarajah was Amirtham’s student in Bangalore and colleague in Geneva, and has been a friend of the family for nearly 60 years.

Bishop Amirtham, who was director of the Ecumenical Institute at Bossey in the late 1980s, passed away in September 2017.

In a letter of invitation to the lecture, his son, Arun Amirtham, expressed appreciation for all those who are continuing his father’s legacy.

“Continuing his legacy of ecumenical witness, theological formation, lay leadership and social justice has been a concern for many of his colleagues, students, disciples, friends and family,” wrote Arun Amirtham. “We are grateful for the numerous articles, publications and books that immediately followed his death and continue occasionally each year.”
