Yonsei University—host of last years WCC Commission on Education and Ecumenical Formation will offer a welcome program on 7 August.

During the week, Pillay will also visit with leaders from the Presbyterian Church of Korea and the Anglican Church of Korea.

Hosted by the National Council of Churches in Korea, Pillay will commemorate the 80th anniversary of Koreas liberation, independence, and division. He will visit the Memorial Hall for Korean Democratization Movement for an opportunity to reflect on Koreas journey toward democracy and its human rights movements.

A peace pilgrimage to the Demilitarized Zone, starting from Jangsan Observatory, will offer another opportunity for prayers for peace together. Pillay will meet with residents of the border region, hearing directly from those living along the inter-Korean frontier, especially in light of recent developments such as the suspension of inter-Korean loudspeaker broadcasts (both South-to-North and North-to-South).

Pillay will attend a service at St Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral, then will attend an ecumenical service at Yeondong Church, where he will preach.

Pillay will have a courtesy visit with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung before attending a dedication service for a Reconciliation and Peace Church on 11 August, during which he will make congratulatory remarks.

Prayer service will focus on peaceful reunification of the Korean Peninsula (WCC news release, 16 July 2025)
