Want to hear firsthand what’s special about this GETI?
Prof. Dr Ani Ghazaryan Drissi, WCC programme executive for Ecumenical Theological Education and professor at the Ecumenical Institute at Bossey, and Rev. Dr Benjamin Simon, dean of the World Council of Churches (WCC) Ecumenical Institute at Bossey and director of the WCC’s Commission on Ecumenical Education and Formation, took time to share a description and some history of why GETI is so unique.
“Ecumenical theological education and broad-based ecumenical formation is a vital priority for Christianity and for the continuation of the ecumenical movement,” said Drissi. “The GETI is one of the ways to answer to this urgent need to form ecumenists and last the learning process on visible unity.”
GETI will be held at the Logos Coptic Papal Center, which, Drissi said, “stands as a place of dialogue and as a bridge between ancient monastic traditions and the contemporary needs of a diverse society.”
Students who are recommended by their churches will receive a reflective exposure to the vibrancy of lived faith on the Coptic Oriental Orthodox Church and Middle East. They will gather during the Sixth World Conference on Faith and Order for a blended learning experience consisting of a four-week phase of e-learning 15 September-12 October 2025, before the residential phase.
Twenty facilitators from different higher theological institutions in the world will provide an academic competent and intercultural-sensitive accompaniment and engagement with topics pertinent to ecumenical theology as articulated in the Sixth World Conference of Faith and Order.
Students working under the theme “Where now for visible unity?” will be immersed in an environment for study and fellowship representing the fullest possible breadth of Christianity.
