Globethics.net has launched a new book, “Globalance: Ethics Handbook for a Balanced World Post-Covid” by Prof. Christoph Stückelberger, Globethics.net president and founder.

Stückelberger said the book raises these questions: “How can we transform current disruptions, polarizations and imbalances in the world into a new dynamic world order and global balances? How can ethics contribute to this transition by a balance of values and virtues? How can we do it under the conditions of the world Post-Covid?”

During a live webinar, a panel included his input on the theme of ethics for a balanced world post COVID-19. The event was moderated by Prof. Dr Obiora Ike, executive director of Globethics.net.

Doris Leuthard, former president of the Swiss Confederation, shared a reflection on the role of bridge builders like Switzerland in promoting a balanced world: “In a more integrated system, the government has to give up some power, they have to accept other stakeholders with their experience, it’s very difficult. With digital technologies, we have a chance to make it possible.”

Prof. Dr Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker, former co-president of the Club of Rome and author of the preface of the new book, called on the world to : “find a new civilisation essentially based on balance .“

Prof. Dr Liu Baocheng, professor of International Economics and Ethics and Beijing advisor to the Chinese Delegation of Trade Negotiations with the USA , shared his thoughts on the question: “Are there solutions for globalance in US-China relations?” He said it is time to “put the Chinese-US relationship into the final test,” and that values will be the decisive element to reach balance.

Dr Mariana Bozesan, founder and CEO of Aqal Capital, addressed the issue of the financial crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. “We need to move away from ‘profit only’ measurement criteria to include people, planet and profit. We need to create a well-being economy,” she said.

Dr Pavan Duggal, international cyber law expert and advocate, Supreme Court of India, reflected on how to reach globalance in polarized cyber technologies and for cyber security. He called for cyber ethics, sharing his concerns: “Fake news is being used to target the fighting of COVID-19.”
