Co-organized by the World Council of Churches (WCC) and key ecumenical partners, this transformative program will empower 20 emerging faith leaders to advocate for a just global economic system.
GEM School responds to the limited influence of churches’ ethical and theological perspectives on global economic policies. By bridging theology and economics, this initiative, as part of the New International Financial and Economic Architecture, answers global calls for systemic change.
Rev. Dr Kenneth Mtata, WCC programme director for Public Witness and Diakonia, said, “GEM School builds a community of leaders capable of engaging with economic issues from their faith perspectives, equipping them to advocate for justice in the face of inequality and environmental breakdown.”
The 10-day intensive programme will address vital themes such as economic justice, ecological sustainability, feminist economics, and advocacy strategies. Participants will design actionable projects for an Economy of Life grounded in ecumenical values and alternative economic models.
Athena Peralta, WCC director of the Commission on Climate Justice and Sustainable Development, explained, “This initiative underscores our collective commitment to a just and sustainable future, empowering leaders to craft economic systems that prioritize people and the planet.”
Applications are open until 1 March 2025.
