Forum for Peace, Reunification, and Cooperation on the Korean Peninsula convenes

The newly-elected general secretary of the National Council of Churches in Korea (NCCK) Rev. Park Seung Ryoul, attending his first EFK meeting in this capacity, said that the NCCK seeks to join hands more deeply with the global ecumenical community, and strengthen and expand people-to-people networks for peace on the Korean Peninsula, centered on the Ecumenical Forum for Korea.

“At the same time, we remember our neighbors around the world who suffer from war and conflict, violence and oppression, and we renew the church’s calling to walk together in reconciliation and hope within our common life,” he said. “On the basis of mutual recognition and respect, we seek to bring an end to war, to dismantle hostile relations, and to move forward toward a peaceful two-state path oriented toward integration and reconciliation.”

The National Council of Churches in Korea is preparing to co-host an International Ecumenical Peace Convocation in Seoul together with the World Council of Churches and the Christian Conference of Asia. “In the Korean Peninsula, a symbol of division, we hope that the global ecumenical community will once again gather to share a vision of peace, reconciliation, and healing,” said Ryoul. 

"Peace on the Korean Peninsula is never the task of one nation alone. It is a matter of peace for Northeast Asia, and at the same time a testing ground for peace in our world. The NCCK seeks to walk this path with you humbly, yet with courage. We ask for your continued companionship and solidarity in the journey ahead,” concluded Ryoul.
