Organised with the Polish Ecumenical Council, the Pre-assembly will enable European participants to actively engage in the life and processes of the WCC 11th Assembly, bringing experiences and voices from the European churches, raising awareness about crucial topics, and highlighting the work of the churches on reconciliation.
Topics will include churches as reconciling communities in increasingly secular and plural European societies; Christ’s call to discipleship; churches in Europe and the global ecumenical movement; and more.
In a message about the European Regional Pre-Assembly, Dr Jørgen Skov Sørensen, general secretary of the Conference of European Churches, said that participants will explore what a call to discipleship means to people of faith and churches in Europe, amidst a fragmented, divided world.
“We will reflect how churches can form reconciling communities in an increasingly secular and plural Europe,” he said. “And we will affirm Christ’s call to discipleship, transforming love, inclusivity and perpetual hope.”
