Connected with the basic principles of the church’s general strategy, the document develops and offers guidelines concerning the basis and means that Lutheran Christians will promote the fellowship of Christians, and thus better fulfil the mission of the church as a whole.
“The church’s basic mission is to advance the kingdom of God and proclaim Jesus Christ as the Saviour of the world,” the text reads. “It is the church’s mission to invite people into a relationship with God and encourage them to care for their neighbours and creation. The definition underlines that the proclamation of the saving gospel, inclusion, solidarity, advocacy on behalf of the vulnerable, pastoral care, the pursuit of equality and human dignity, and the preservation of the integrity of creation go hand in hand.”
