Christian Conference of Asia honours Korean Dr Sang Jung Park, Dr Ahn Jae Woong, and Dr Park Kyung Seo

In recognition of their decades-long commitment to the Asian and global ecumenical movement, and their leadership within the Christian Conference of Asia and the World Council of Churches (WCC), two former general secretaries of Christian Council of Asia, Dr Sang Jung Park and Dr Ahn Jae Woong, and a former WCC Asia secretary, Prof. Dr Park Kyung Seo, were honoured by the Christian Conference of Asia at a special function organized by the National Council of Churches in Korea on 17 October.

Dr Sang Jung Park, who was elected as the general secretary of Christian Conference of Asia in 1985, continued until 1990. Dr Sang Jung Park served the WCC in Geneva as an executive secretary in the 1970s and early 1980s.

Dr Ahn Jae Woong served as the seventh general secretary of the Christian Conference of Asia from 2000 to 2005 in Hong Kong. He is known for his significant contributions to nurturing ecumenical formation and leadership development, and for his passion and commitment to human rights and advocacy for peace with justice.

A professor of sociology, Dr Park Kyung Seo served the WCC as its Asia Secretary from 1982 to 1999. He coordinated WCC’s relations with the Christian Conference of Asia.
