The group, formed by participants of the Interreligious Summer Course and the Intensive English Summer Course, spent time with WCC staff learning more about different WCC programmatic areas.
Sakeenah Dramat, a Muslim from South Africa, described her fantastic experience. "As a group — the interreligious group, but also the group of English students — we get along very well, regardless of the fact that we are a group of different faiths, and also that we are an ecumenical group,” she said. “I really appreciate that space is the way to have these discussions — to just be in a space of being able to engage intellectually and then also just come together as people.”
Muhammad Haikal Bin Adzmir, a Muslim from Malaysia, said the visit gave him a lot of hope for the WCC’s role in the wider world and in the ecological crisis. “We share our traditions to stress the importance of creation beyond an anthropocentric lens,” he said. “From there, by redefining our role in the world, we can move to more practical steps on how we address this world that is collectively God's creation. Hopefully that's where the interreligious action can take place—beyond the dialogue.”
Rachel Wyffels, a Christian from the US, described her wonderful time at Bossey. “It's one thing to engage academically in interfaith dialogue and another thing entirely to live with the people that you're in dialogue with and build those important relationships that are so important for all of our communities and for the world moving forward,” she said. “So I loved our time together.”
Wyffels concluded: “I think seeing a vision of ecumenism and a value placed on interfaith work going forward, and having a structure in which to engage those things, are really important for future faith leaders in any capacity — academic, pastoral, or otherwise.”
