Just published, a booklet on the WCC's 9th Assembly in Porto Alegre, Brazil reviews, in words and images, an event that gathered over 4000 people from churches throughout the world. An event that, in the words of the WCC general secretary, Rev. Dr Samuel Kobia, "heralded a new era in ecumenical history, to be marked by increasing attention to the spiritual strength of ecumenism along with the institutional concerns of the ecumenical movement".

The four-page booklet summarizes the Assembly's work on a new WCC constitution, church unity, programme priorities, public issues, and the 2001-2010 Decade to Overcome Violence. It includes a message from Kobia, the Assembly message, extracts from a text on ecclesiology "Gathered to be the One Church", and information on the Council's new leadership as well as on Assembly resources.

The centre-fold displays a selection of "snapshots", arranged in chronological order, which transmit something of the flavour of "a grace-filled gathering".

The review is available in PDF format (229KB).
