Under the theme "Faith, dignity, and justice on the move”, the congress is being convened by the Faculty of Religious Sciences at the University of the Latin American Educational Center, in collaboration with universities, churches, faith-based organizations, and international institutions. It aims to generate concrete and sustainable responses to the ethical, pastoral, and social challenges associated with migration and displacement in the region.
María Angélica Farías, of the Evangelical Methodist Church of Argentina, will participate as a WCC consultant and representative.
Farías has been introducing the WCC's newly published manuals on HIV and Migration and HIV and Mental Health in the region. At the congress, she will present these resources while highlighting the WCC's vision of holistic health.
Serving as a platform for dialogue and collaboration, the congress will bring together academic research, pastoral practice, international cooperation, and public advocacy.
“Before our engagement with the organizers, there were no sessions addressing health,” said Gracia Violeta Ross, WCC programme executive for HIV, Reproductive Health, and Pandemics. “Thanks to this collaboration, the programme now includes three sessions focused on health.”
Ross described this as a significant achievement, noting that the Evangelical Methodist Church of Argentina has taken the initiative to make migration a priority and to organize a congress that brings together churches, partners, and other stakeholders from across Latin America.
