This booklet includes 15 reflections on international commemorative health days from Dr Mwai Makoka, WCC Programme Executive for Health and Healing, who emphasises that he is not a theologian, but “a lay Christian who is a medical professional and keen to promote health and healing from a Christian perspective."

The reflections promote the understanding that the Christian ministry of healing belongs to the congregation as a whole and not just to health professionals. They seek to accompany local congregations to strengthen their ministry so that, at all levels, every church is a place of health education, practical action, advocacy and care.

Each reflection can be read in about ten minutes, preferably during church service, and is readily understandable for the lay reader.

From the foreword by Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general of WHO:

“Healing and wellbeing are among the most common themes in the Bible, from the public health regulations contained in the Torah through to the healings of Jesus. The reflections in this booklet help to make the connection between ancient texts and modern health threats.”
