Le Conseil oecuménique des Eglises (COE) sera l'hôte d'une conférence internationale sur le thème "Chrétiens et Musulmans en dialogue et au delà". Cette rencontre de trois jours se tiendra du 16 au 18 octobre 2002 au centre oecuménique à Genève, Suisse.
Tarek Mitri, coordinateur de l'équipe chargée du dialogue et des relations interreligieuses au COE, déclare que son organisation a invité les 40 participants à se rencontrer en vue d'un "examen critique de l'état actuel des relations entre leurs communautés respectives" ainsi que d'une "évaluation des résultats obtenus". Il indique que les entretiens incluront "une recherche des priorités futures", qui vont sans doute se centrer sur le travail commun au niveau local.
La rencontre sera co-animée par le modérateur du COE, ss Aram 1er, catholicos du Siège de Cilicie de l'Eglise apostolique arménienne (Antélias, Liban), et par Dr Mohammed S. El-Awa, avocat et éminent juriste égyptien.
Parmi les intervenants lors de la journée d'ouverture sur le thème "Réflexions sur l'état actuel des relations Musulmans-Chrétiens", on notera:
SE Dr Abdelouahed Belkeziz, secrétaire général de l'Organisation de la Conférence Islamique.
SE Sayyid Mohammad Ali Abtahi, président de l'Institut pour le Dialogue Interreligieux, et vice-président de la République Islamique d'Iran.
SE Dr Mohammed Ahmed Al-Sherif, secrétaire général, Islamic Call Society.
SE Dr Hamid Bin Ahmand Al-Rifaie, président du Forum International Islamique pour le Dialogue.
Les points de vues chrétiens seront présentés par SE l'archevêque Michael Fitzgerald, président de la "commission pour le Dialogue Interreligieux" au Vatican, et par le Pasteur Konrad Raiser, secrétaire général du Conseil oecuménique des Eglises.
Information à la presse qui souhaite assister à la session
Les journalistes sont invités à assister aux sessions du mercredi 16 octobre jusqu'à 16h00, au centre oecuménique, à Genève.
Une conférence de presse en anglais se tiendra à 12h30 dans la salle de conférence du centre. Sur demande, certains participants seront à disposition pour des interviews. Le centre est équipé d'une ligne RNIS.
