Ecumenical School on Governance, Economics, and Management for an Economy of Life (GEM School) 2026

17 - 28 August 2026

The World Council of Churches is inviting applications for the Ecumenical School on Governance, Economics, and Management for an Economy of Life (GEM School), 17–28 August 2026 in Panama City, Panama. Five partner organizations are joining the effort: the World Communion of Reformed Churches, Lutheran World Federation, World Methodist Council, Council for World Mission, and United Society Partners in the Gospel. The 10-day programme will train 20–25 church leaders to push for change in global finance.

WCC at the UN Convention to Combat Desertification COP17

17 - 28 August 2026

Governments from 197 countries will meet in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, from 17-28 August 2026 for the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP17). UNCCD COP17 will run under the theme Restoring Land, Restoring Hope.” The World Council of Churches (WCC) will take part throughout, across four public events and a daily quiet space inside the conference.

NIFEA Consultation on Economy of Peace 2026

26 August - 28 July 2026

The World Council of Churches (WCC) will convene the NIFEA Consultation on Economy of Peace in Panama City from 26-28 August 2026. Five ecumenical partners will join as co-conveners: the World Communion of Reformed Churches, Lutheran World Federation, World Methodist Council, Council for World Mission, and United Society Partners in the Gospel (USPG).

Webinar: Interrogating colonial legacies in self-evaluation and self-representation

The World Council of Churches (WCC) will host a webinar on 31 August 2026, marking the UN International Day for People of African Descent. The question put forth will be a plain one: How do colonial assumptions survive inside the everyday expectations a workplace puts on the people who work there? The sessions will be convened by the WCC programmes on Overcoming Racism, Xenophobia, and Related Discrimination and Just Community of Women and Men. 

Season of Creation 2026: Living Waters

01 September - 04 October 2026

The World Council of Churches calls Christians worldwide to observe the Season of Creation from 1 September to 4 October 2026. This year's theme, "Living Waters," comes from Ezekiel 47:9 and 12—a biblical vision of hope and ecological restoration.

Faith and Genetics course

14 September - 07 December 2026

An 11-week “Faith and Genetics” course jointly offered from September to December by the World Council of Churches (WCC) and Christian Medical College will share and discuss ethical concerns to ensure that progress in genetics serves humanity holistically and builds public trust.
