Webinar: WCC Living Planet Monitor inspiring action for climate and environment

The World Council of Churches (WCC), in partnership with the European Christian Organisations for Relief and Development (EU-CORD) and the International Partnership on Religion and Sustainable Development (PaRD), invites faith communities worldwide to join a webinar on 10 September 2025, 9:30–11:00 CEST, presenting findings from the recently launched Living Planet Monitor—a comprehensive publication featuring stories and data from faith-based organisations working for ecological change—and introducing the Ecumenical Decade of Climate Justice Action: 2025-2034.

Muryani harvests peanuts near the village of Kemadang, Indonesia. She participates in a local "food barn" coordinated by the village's Javanese Christian Church congregation. The project helps farmers impacted by the climate crisis to change their farming techniques and store their harvests in order to sell at more profitable times.

Like many Indonesians, Muryani uses only one name.

The Living Planet Monitor examines faith communities' engagement in sustainable food systems, land stewardship, biodiversity conservation, and water justice. By tracking indicators such as food security, climate resilience, and land use, it serves as a tool to inform, inspire, and connect faith actors committed to ecological justice. The first volume focuses on southern and eastern Africa, with future editions covering northern, central, and western Africa in October 2025, and Asia in early 2026.

The webinar will feature Dinesh Suna, WCC programme executive for Land, Water, and Food and coordinator of the WCC Ecumenical Water Network, presenting the monitor's findings. Participants will then engage in interactive breakout groups for developing faith-based climate initiatives. Athena Peralta, director of the WCC Commission on Climate Justice and Sustainable Development, will introduce the Ecumenical Decade of Climate Justice Action—launched at WCC's highest governing body meeting in South Africa to mobilise churches globally in response to the climate emergency.

This event is part of EU-CORD's Faith, Climate, and Environment conversation series, creating spaces for shared learning, connection, and action among EU-CORD members and partners exploring environmental issues through the lens of faith.

Register for the webinar to explore how faith communities can use their unique position to address the climate emergency, strengthen food security and water access, and conserve biodiversity. Participants will help shape initiatives that support the WCC's commitment to climate justice action.
