Ecumenical School on Governance, Economics, and Management for an Economy of Life (GEM School) 2026
The school builds on the Sao Paulo Statement and the Ecumenical Action Plan for a New International Financial and Economic Architecture. Churches bring vital ethical and theological perspectives to economic debates, but these voices rarely shape financial policy. The programme trains leaders to make compelling arguments on economic justice.
Each day mixes worship, Bible study, lectures, discussions, and hands-on work. Participants will examine how theology connects to economics, look at mainstream economics alongside ecological and feminist alternatives, and dig into debt, global governance, and advocacy. They'll develop projects for an Economy of Life and join a consultation on economies of peace, including field visits to learn from Panamanian churches working on economic justice.
Applicants need an MA or BA in theology, economics, finance, business, or social science - or show experience working on economic and ecological justice. Five years of leadership experience required (waived for applicants under 30). An essay must show you understand policy and care about justice. A church or ecumenical organization must endorse you. Selection ensures regional, gender, and denominational diversity.
Scholarship recipients get flights, accommodation, and meals covered. Participants contribute 100 US dollars.
Apply online by 1 March 2026. You'll hear back by 31 March.
