Commission on World Mission and Evangelism

The WCC Commission on World Mission and Evangelism (CWME) will gather in Helsinki (Finland) 16-22 May, 2019 to evaluate and reflect on the Conference of World Mission and Evangelism that took place in Arusha (Tanzania) and its future work. The CWME will be hosted by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland (ELCF).

The WCC Commission on World Mission and Evangelism (CWME) will gather in Helsinki, Finland 16-22 May, 2019 to evaluate and reflect on the Conference of World Mission and Evangelism that took place in Arusha (Tanzania) and its future work. The CWME will be hosted by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland (ELCF).

The WCC CWME convenes every second year, with its last meeting taking place in Atlanta, Georgia (USA) in January 2017.

In the Helsinki gathering the CWME will focus its work on:

  • the evaluation of the Arusha Conference on World Mission and Evangelism in 2018, the overall evaluation of the Conference and its “Call to Discipleship”, especially in preparation for the next WCC Assembly in Karlsruhe, Germany in 2021
  • the launch of the Arusha Conference Report Book, and Arusha Call to Transforming Discipleship devotional guide.The event will be live streamed at www.oikoumene.org/live 20 May at 3pm CET
  • meetings with the finnish ecumenical and mission partners
