A los seis años de edad, Abu El Walid Dajani empezó a ayudar a su padre a dirigir el hotel New Imperial, cercano a la Puerta de Jaffa, en Jerusalén. El histórico inmueble es propiedad del Patriarcado Ortodoxo Griego y fue arrendado antes de 1967 a la familia Dajani para que lo explotara como hotel. Ahora, con 77 años, es Dajani quien dirige el establecimiento. Pero la amenaza de desahucio está desbaratando el modo de vida que su familia ha conocido durante generaciones.

El tema principal de una de las reuniones confesionales que tuvieron lugar durante la reunión del Comité Central del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI), a mediados de junio, fue la habilitación de las mujeres desfavorecidas y de sus hijos para mitigar la pobreza.

Dr Angelique Walker-Smith of the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc. and Bread for the World in Washington, DC, during the Baptist confessional meeting that took place at the recent World Council of Churches (WCC) central committee meeting. 

As a six-year-old boy, Abu El Walid Dajani began helping his father manage the New Imperial Hotel near Jaffa Gate, Jerusalem. The historic property is owned by the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate, and leased before 1967 to the Dajani family to run as a hotel.  Now 77, Dajani has become the manager. But the threat of eviction is derailing a way of life his family has known for generations.

Empowering underprivileged women and their children to alleviate poverty was the main topic of one of the confessional meetings held during the World Council of Churches (WCC) central committee meeting in mid-June.
