El CMI lamenta el fallecimiento de Julio de Santa Ana

“Con tristeza recibimos la noticia del fallecimiento del Prof. Dr. Julio Héctor de Santa Ana, un destacado referente de la teología ecuménica desde una perspectiva liberadora”, dijo el Rev. Prof. Dr. Jerry Pillay, secretario general del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI). De Santa Ana falleció en Ginebra (Suiza) el 17 de abril.

“It was with sadness that we received the news of the passing of Prof. Dr Julio Hector de Santa Ana, a reference of ecumenical theology in a liberating perspective,” said Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay, general secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC). De Santa Ana passed away in Geneva, Switzerland, on 17 April.

General consul of Bolivia visits WCC to strengthen collaborative work

On 29 April, general consul of Bolivia in Switzerland Efraín Chambi Copa visited the World Council of Churches (WCC), meeting with WCC acting general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca and Rev. WCC general secretary meets with Indigenous representative from Latin America

The World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit met last week with Rev. Miguel Salanic, from Guatemala, in Geneva, Switzerland. They discussed the role of indigenous people as part of the living WCC fellowship and the preparations leading up to the WCC 11th Assembly to be held in Karlsruhe, Germany in 2021.

Film festival awards “Compañeros – La noche de 12 años”

At the 33rd Festival International de Films de Fribourg, held 15-23 March, the Ecumenical Jury awarded “Compañeros – La noche de 12 años” (A Twelve-Year Night), directed by Álvaro Brechner, a prize of 5,000 CHF donated by the Swiss organizations Lenten Offering and Bread for All.

An ecumenical pioneer’s book re-launched in English

In 1984 a pastor from Uruguay became the first Latin American to be elected as general secretary of the WCC. The late Emilio Castro (1927 - 2013) left an unmatched legacy of passionate ecumenism behind him. His book “Pasion y compromise con el Reino de Dios”, first published in 2007, has now been translated into English and released in an edited version.

Convocatoria abierta para la Eco-School del CMI para América Latina y el Caribe

La segunda edición de la Eco-School del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI) sobre justicia hídrica, alimentaria y climática tendrá lugar del 1 al 12 de noviembre en San Salvador, El Salvador. Este año, la ecoescuela se centrará en América Latina y el Caribe. La convocatoria está abierta y el plazo para presentar las solicitudes vence el 31 de agosto de 2018.
