The World Council of Churches is commemorating its 70th anniversary in 2018, and to mark the anniversary, the WCC is seeking articles from students of theology, younger theologians and early career researchers – ordained or lay – for a special issue in October 2018 of its quarterly journal, The Ecumenical Review.

The overall theme of the anniversary is “Walking Together, Serving Justice and Peace,” and articles should focus on an aspect of the WCC’s history or work, illustrating its relevance for the future path of the WCC and the wider ecumenical movement in the 21st century. Ideas for possible articles include the following:
- Faith and Order in an increasingly diverse World Christianity
- Ecumenism and interfaith dialogue
- Mission and the flourishing of Creation
- The Community of Women and Men in the Church
- Church, society and the Earth
- Planetary hospitality in a religiously plural world
- Orthodox churches and the World Council of Churches - their mutual contributions
- Just and inclusive communities
- An ecumenical basis for human rights in the 21st century
- Mutual accountability in a world characterized by conflict
- The significance of a specific aspect of ecumenical history for the WCC
These suggestions are intended as a starting point for further reflection and not as an exclusive list of topics.
Articles should be between 5000 and 6000 words (including footnotes and references) and written in English. However, they will be judged on the quality of their contribution and not their English language proficiency. They should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere. More details are available below. The deadline for contributions is 31 May 2018.
The best articles representing different church traditions, contexts and perspectives will be published in The Ecumenical Review, and a selection of other articles will be published online on the Ecumenical Review page on the WCC website.
Guidelines
1. Articles should be the original work of the author and not have been published elsewhere, nor under consideration elsewhere.
2. Authors should be not more than 38 years old on 31 May 2018.
3. Articles should be between 5000 and 6000 words long (including footnotes) and written in English. Articles will be judged on the quality of their ideas, not proficiency in English.
4. Articles should be submitted electronically to [email protected] by 31 May 2018 as Word documents in either .doc or .docx format and as A4 or US Letter format, with margins set at 1 inch (2.54 cm) all round, and written as 12 pt Times New Roman, with line spacing set at 1.5 lines. Articles should follow the WCC style guide for Ecumenical Review, available here.
5. Each submission should be accompanied by a cover sheet with the author’s name, country of origin, date of birth, institutional affiliation (if appropriate), church membership, postal address, and email address. The author’s name should not be included on the article itself.
6. Copyright for articles published by The Ecumenical Review or on the WCC website will rest with the World Council of Churches.
7. Decisions of the World Council of Churches will be final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding decisions made.
