For Those Who Wish to Hear: Emerging Theologians on Mission and Evangelism

For those who wish to hear, these novel voices of emerging theologians offer authentic clues to translating the received traditions of Christianity in ways that might also transform the world.

Report of the World Council of Churches Conference on World Mission and Evangelism

Edited by Amélé Adamavi-Aho Ekué, Pamela D. Couture, and Samuel George

Translating the Word to transform the world

What are the new roles of mission and evangelism in our post-colonial, globalized contexts? What will ecumenical rethinking of mission and evangelism mean for Christian theology generally—and for Christian discipleship— in a world brimming with both pain and promise? How can we engage with what the world is trying to tell us?

These are the central concerns of the 14 younger theologians writing in this volume from a wide array of confessional and regional standpoints. They are among the more than 100 who gathered for the Global Ecumenical Theological Institute (GETI) in Arusha, Tanzania, in 2018. Sharing their stories, their concerns, and their insights, they freshly and helpfully reframe not just mission and evangelism but also poverty and eco-justice, interreligious relations, sexuality and gender justice, preaching and liturgy.

For those who wish to hear, these novel voices of emerging theologians offer authentic clues to translating the received traditions of Christianity in ways that might also transform the world.
