Geneva, 17 September 2007

It is with deep sorrow that we received the sad news of the demise of Rev. Kim Dong Wan, a former General Secretary of the NCC Korea and a tireless advocate for peace and reconciliation.

Rev. Kim, a devout Christian and committed ecumenist, was associated with the WCC in various ways especially when he served as the General Secretary of the NCCK. He was deeply involved in the civil society movement in Korea and actively took part in people's struggle for human rights and peace with justice for several decades. We remember Rev. Kim Dong Wan's numerous contributions to the church and society in Korea and the significant leadership he has demonstrated in the Korean ecumenical movement. He has also made contributions to the Christian Conference of Asia (CCA) while he served on the General Committee of the CCA.

We thank God for the life and witness of Rev. Kim Dong Wan and we offer our heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family.

May his soul rest in peace.
