Dear Rev. Dr Kortu K. Brown,
Acting president of the Liberian Council of Churches

“And hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love is poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.” Romans 5:5

I write to extend my congratulations on behalf of the World Council of Churches for the honour of Commander, Order of the Star of Africa being bestowed upon the Liberia Council of Churches for your concerted efforts to be a sign of hope in the midst of the Ebola crisis.

We are very aware of your advocacy, your coordination of member churches, your practical efforts and your witness of prayer during this deeply traumatic time for your country. We are proud to be a partner through accompaniment and celebrate this distinction being given to you.

Your witness in this crisis has been an inspiration to the ecumenical movement beyond your country, a testimony to what can be accomplished as Churches and ecumenical organizations working together in a time of need to serve those who suffer and are in fear.

We offer our continuing prayers and accompaniment for the work that you do in Liberia.

Yours in our Common Lord,

Georges Lemopoulos
WCC acting general secretary
