Your Grace Bishop Angaelos,

Greetings in the name of the Holy Trinity, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit,

It is with great joy that we were informed that you have been made an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) for promoting human rights and religious freedoms.

As a General Bishop of the Coptic Orthodox Church not only you have played a leading role in promoting the role of young people in the society, but you have also contributed greatly to advocacy efforts for human rights and development in the UK and beyond.

The World Council of Churches is grateful for your work in promoting Christian unity and interfaith collaboration. Your work is a reflection of the role of the churches in times of challenges and troubles bringing hope for change and acting for peaceful societies.

We are specifically thankful for having you as a member of the Reference Group on Human Sexuality. The work of the reference group is essential to the ecumenical movement and to the member churches of the WCC as it promotes human rights and accompanies the churches on the Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace.

On behalf of the WCC and its constituency we extend our heartfelt congratulations and pray that God will give you the strength to continue your journey of faith and honor your contributions to his Creation.

Yours in Christ,

Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit
WCC general secretary
