Dear Archbishop Villma,

Grace and Peace to you in the name of Christ, our Lord!

I extend to you my congratulations for your consecration as the new Archbishop of the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church. The office to which you have been called is one with many responsibilities; as a leader, a visionary, an advocate for education and mission in the church, as well as a pastor to your clergy and faithful. I offer you my prayers as you commence this important role.

At the World Council of Churches, we count on your vocation as an ecumenist as well. It is our hope that you will work within your church and between those churches in Estonia to exemplify the calling “that all may be one.” Your presence in the global fellowship of churches brings perspectives and experiences we need. Your church is valuable to our identity and calling.

I regret being unable to be present at your consecration, but am grateful to the WCC President for Europe, Archbishop Anders Wejryd, for his presence and his offering the full support and congratulations of the World Council of Churches.

My prayers and those of the council will be with you on this day of consecration and celebration and as you move into your new calling.

With best wishes to you and your family in this joyful time.

Yours in our Common Lord,

Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit
General secretary
