Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,

Christ is Risen!

It is with deep sorrow that we have been following the news of the recent disaster that has claimed so many innocent young lives off the coast of Jindo Island. The sad news of the tragedy has reached many parts of the world, and many Christians belonging to the fellowship of the World Council of Churches are praying for the suffering families and victims of the capsized ferry.

Although words are not enough to express our grief in this time of tragedy, we offer our heartfelt expressions of condolence, compassion and community to the families who are still waiting for news of those still missing, as well as those who are mourning the loss of loved ones. We also express our solidarity for those who are struggling to cope with the trauma of survival. Our hearts are torn, and we shed tears of sorrow with those who are weeping. We cry out in anguish with you seeking the grace and mercy of God to strengthen each and every one of us in this time of trial. We also offer up our prayers seeking strength and courage borne out for those who are still braving the cold waters to search for survivors.

As we wait in expectation for some good news, I wish to assure you of our steadfast prayers and love.

Yours in our Common Lord, Crucified and Risen,

Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit
