WCC General Secretary

Greetings,

I have well received the declaration that the WCC has released in solidarity with Lebanon and encouraging the restoration of peace in the ME through a just and comprehensive solution of the Palestinian problem. We do know the continuous efforts that the WCC has been exerting for the last three decades towards Christian-Muslim dialogue and the good care and support WCC gave to the stability of human relations, justice and balance of power in the world. For all of the above, I am writing to you in appreciation of he declaration that you released on Lebanon and Palestine.
I am sure that this friendly position of yours towards Lebanon will always be maintained under all circumstances and situations.

We have been exposed for the seventh day to the Israeli aggression killing people, destroying constructions, exempting no area, no outlet, no civilian target, no road. The number of killed and injured has come up to hundreds. The number of displaced has gone well over a hundred thousand, augmenting increasingly; hundreds of residential buildings are knocked down, bridges destroyed, airport and ports are attacked and heavily damaged; total siege is declared around the country by air, sea and land.

[...]

We deeply appreciate WCC positions supporting Lebanon. We are confident that you will continue to stand by us in solidarity for the security of Lebanon, its stability, sovereignty, and the coexistence of all its communities. We hope you could, through your contacts with international instances and international humanitarian organizations, act effectively towards stopping the aggression against Lebanon, and assist us to address this crisis through the emergency humanitarian assistance needed.

I ask Almighty God for His mercy and help to give us the patience to resist this destructive tempest. I thank you for your solidarity and support. Lebanon will continue to be, as you have known it, the country of openness, peaceful coexistence, freedom, democracy and faith in God and the great human values.
