- As one who has personally benefited from the hospitality and ecumenical spirituality of the Bose community, I am delighted to offer my greetings at the onset of your conference. The monastery remains a true ecumenical beacon in its commitment and contributions, as evidenced in the strong relationships and friendships of the community with the WCC and our members. The Orthodox spirituality experienced and lived in this monastery cannot be separated from its continual sharing beyond its walls and beyond confessional borders. Life is communion: communion with each other and with God. The Apostle Paul says it beautifully: “In him we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28). In the liturgy of John Chrysostom, we hear repeatedly: “Let us commend ourselves and one another and our whole lives to Christ our Lord.” This call teaches and reminds us what the Christian life is all about. Against any compartmentalization, it stresses the wholeness of the life which must be directed toward the source of life, which is God.

- 2nd Webinar: Racism, Xenophobia and Discrimination in North America
- The thematic focus of the World Council of Churches (WCC) Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace (PJP) in 2019 is Racism.The WCC Commission of the Churches on International Affairs (CCIA), organises a series of eight WCC CCIA regional expert Webinars on the issue of racism and racial justice from August to December 2019. The aim of the webinars is to explore how racism manifests itself in the respective regions, learn about the work that churches and ecumenical partners are doing in this respect, identify synergies and avenues for possible collaboration.
- WCC Child Safeguarding Policy
- Adherence to the WCC’s Child Safeguarding Policy and its Child Safe Code of Conduct is a mandatory requirement for all staff, volunteers, consultants, interns, contractors, representatives, partners and those invited by the WCC to visit projects (hereafter referred to as staff and others) serving programmes in which interactions with children may take place (such as, but not limited to, EAA, EAPPI, EDAN, EHAIA, EWN, Indigenous Peoples, Child Rights, etc.).

- At the “Safe to Learn” Leaders Event in New York in July, the WCC committed to promoting the Safe to Learn strategy. Building on the success of the WCC-UNICEF global partnership, the WCC will convene a global conference of church-run schools in 2020. It will raise awareness on toll free child helplines, and promote solutions to the climate crisis through the Safe to Learn actions.

- 2019 Sunday Prayer Worship for Peaceful Reunification of the Korean Peninsula
- August 15 is celebrated as Liberation Day in Korea, the day that signifies Korea’s liberation from Japanese colonization. In 2013, the WCC 10th General Assembly meeting in Busan, Korea passed a resolution that the churches of the world will annually observe each Sunday prior to August 15 as a “Sunday of Prayer for the Peaceful Reunification of the Korean Peninsula.” The Reconciliation and Reunification Committee of the NCCK drafted this liturgy in the hopes that each church could apply it with reference to their own situation. The Joint Prayer for the Peaceful Reunification of the Korean Peninsula was prepared by both the NCCK (South) and the Korean Christian Federation (North) together. In 2018 the two leaders from North and South Korea met and adopted the Panmunjom Declaration and the Pyongyang Declaration. Korean people together with the whole world celebrated and affirmed the two declarations as they pave a new way to peace, prosperity, and unification of the divided Korea. The NCCK together with the global ecumenical community will consolidate all its effort to actualize the spirit of the two declarations.

- During the "Explorations in Evangelism" meeting in Toronto (Canada) international scholars, theologians and clergy wrestled with the long-term and lingering effects of Christian involvement in colonization on the identities of individuals and communities today.The meeting, held June 22-28, was the latest in a series of “Explorations in Evangelism” organized by the World Council of Churches and the Council for World Mission. The project explores the work in evangelism at the grassroots level in different regions and contexts.
