Workshop applications open for Conference on World Mission and Evangelism

14 September 2017

The World Council of Churches (WCC) is inviting proposals for workshops to be conducted at the Conference on World Mission and Evangelism (WMC), which will take place from 8-13 March 2018 in Arusha, Tanzania, under the theme “Moving in the Spirit: Called to Transforming Discipleship”.

“Warsha” is the Swahili term selected by the organizers to describe the workshops that will take place during the WMC. The “warshas” of the conference are intended to be spaces of discussing new ideas with the aim of advancing creative thinking on critical and cutting-edge issues in mission and evangelism and equip participants with new skills through the sharing of knowledge.

If you have a challenging and inspiring topic related to the theme of the WMC, feel free to apply for one of the 40 “warshas” of 90 minutes each.

According to Dr Benjamin Simon, professor of Ecumenical Missiology at the Ecumenical Institute Bossey and one of the co-organizers of the workshops, “Moving in the Spirit brings the notion of pilgrimage, of an ongoing journey of all believers, led and guided by the Holy Spirit”, he said. “This is a pilgrimage that is characterized by constant hope for a transformed world of justice and peace and a commitment to renewal in Christ”, added Simon.

Rev. Dr Peniel Rajkumar, Programme Executive for Interreligious Dialogue and Cooperation, who is also responsible for co-organizing the workshops, said that the workshops are a space for the gathering of gifts of wisdom and vision. “The invitation to present a workshop is intended to capture the breadth and depth of the energy and enthusiasm for transforming discipleship that prevails across the ecumenical map”, he said. “As a space of encounter and embrace I am confident that the warshas will provide the strength, support and sustenance needed to move in the Spirit along the pilgrim path of transforming discipleship”, added Rajkumar.
