Sharing insights, as well as the latest news and developments in the ecumenical movement, the new site will emerge over the course of a few days, and then it will be further honed using additional feedback from the online community.
The new design aims to inspire and encourage member churches to work together, and will showcase what churches are doing together on national, regional and global levels.
Interest among WCC member churches, the media and the general public has grown across many channels of WCC communication during 2020. Given this new wave of interest, the website will also serve as a “hotline” for media, increasing the fellowship’s exposure across the world. Other features include resources for ecumenical engagement, and access to vast documentation about the ecumenical movement and its involvement across a wide spectrum of topics.
WCC interim general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca encouraged the ecumenical family to feel a sense of participation and inclusion within the new website because it will serve as a tool for drawing the ecumenical family even closer together.
“We will be happy to greet online visitors, happy to share our most inspiring and urgent calls for justice and peace, happy to have meaningful dialogue with member churches, partners and all people of good will,” said Sauca. “In this case, technology can help us enhance spiritual engagement and provide another way to sincerely reach out to support each other.”
Marianne Ejdersten, WCC director of Communication, said that work is still in progress on the new website, and she also welcomed feedback from visitors. “We continue to strive to create an online community that offers accurate information, suggestions for action, and fruits of inspiration,” she said. “Please, feel free to send your opinions and suggestions to [email protected]."
