The World Council of Churches (WCC) has made several new appointments this year, welcoming programme executives, a programme director, and a new dean of the Bossey Ecumenical Institute.
WCC general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit warmly greeted them as they began to serve in their particular ministries.
New staff include:
Fr Prof. Dr Lawrence Iwuamadi, dean of the Ecumenical Institute. Now serving as dean, at the same time, Iwuamadi still remains professor of Ecumenical Biblical Hermeneutics, a position Iwuamadi has occupied since June 2012. Iwuamadi holds a PhD in Biblical Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome and was a lecturer of Fundamental Scriptures and Greek at the Seat of Wisdom Seminary in Owerri, Nigeria.
Carla Khijoyan, programme executive for the Middle East. Khijoyan was formerly the WCC programme executive for Youth Engagement in the Ecumenical Movement.
Rev. Matthew Ross, programme executive, Diakonia and Capacity Building. Hailing from Scotland, Ross was most recently general secretary of Action of Churches Together, a national ecumenical organization in Scotland, before arriving at the WCC, in June.
Rev. Dr Simone Sinn, professor of Ecumenical Theology at the Ecumenical Institute and programme executive for Faith and Order. Sinn, who is an ordained pastor from the Evangelical-Lutheran Church in Wurttemberg, Germany, previously served as study secretary for Public Theology and Interreligious Relations in the Lutheran World Federation. Sinn began her WCC service on 16 July.
Rev. Dr David Marshall, programme executive for Interreligious Dialogue and Cooperation. Marshall, who hails from the UK, began his service with WCC on 1 August. He brings experience working in interreligious relations, including on the staff of the Archbishop of Canterbury, as well as a commitment over many years to facilitating Christian-Muslim dialogue.
Rev. Dr Risto Jukko, director, WCC Commission on World Mission and Evangelism. Coming from Helsinki, Finland, Jukko previously worked since 2011 as the director of the National Office for Global Mission of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland, a WCC member church. He began his service with WCC on 1 October.
Dr Fulata Moyo, consultant for Trauma Transformation and Healing since October. Moyo, who previously served for more than a decade as a WCC programme executive, began serving as a consultant in October. In her new capacity, she will focus on Nigeria, Sierra Leone and South Sudan.
Rev. Nicole Ashwood, programme executive, Just Community of Women and Men. Ashwood, who began her service on 1 November, is a minister of the United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. A graduate of both the Bossey Ecumenical Institute and Eden Theological Seminary (USA), she has experience in forming regional ecumenical partnerships that address domestic violence, sexual abuse and human trafficking.
