The World Council of Churches (WCC) and the United Bible Societies are holding a two-day leadership summit in Geneva from 18-19 September.
The two organizations are sharing recent news, as well as preparations for their assemblies, both of which will occur in 2021. New publications and new ways of collaborating are also being explored.
Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, general secretary of the WCC, hosted the third and very fruitful leadership summit and he concluded: “The monumental shift in Christianity’s global presence dictates a special attention to the Bible’s message of inclusion and its vision of justice. No matter the divisions and different emphases of each region and confession, we still answer to the same Lord and the same gospel imperatives. A biblically inspired, engaged discipleship, including reading and praying the Bible, has perhaps never been as needed as today.”
Michael Perreau, director general of United Bible Societies, expressed his appreciation for the summit. “It has been a joy and a gift to participate in this leadership summit and to consolidate the historic partnership between the World Council of Churches and the United Bible Societies,” said Perreau. “With common pillars of the Bible and prayer, we look forward to further collaboration in serving all churches and sharing the love of Christ to the world.”
