“We look forward to working closely with you in the fulfillment of people’s hopes and needs worldwide to the glory of the one God”, said Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, general secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC) in a message of greeting to Birgitte Qvist-Sørensen, elected moderator of the governing board of ACT Alliance, on 31 October, in Uppsala, Sweden.

Currently serving as general secretary of Dan Church Aid, Qvist-Sørensen will be accompanied by Tegwende Léonard Kinda, from Dignus Burkina Faso, Africa, as vice-moderator, and Simangaliso Hove, from Lutheran Development Services, Africa, as treasurer.

ACT Alliance 3rd General Assembly delegates also elected 19 new members for the governing board for the global network of 150 churches and church-related organizations working together in humanitarian aid, development and advocacy in over 125 countries.

WCC deputy general secretary Prof. Dr Isabel Apawo Phiri will occupy the WCC’s permanent seat on ACT’s governing board.

Gathered in Uppsala since 28 October, the ACT Assembly ends on 1 November, with a joint day of reflection on ecumenical diakonia and sustainable development with the Executive Committee of the WCC.
