World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit will visit Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and Antigua from 29 September-9 October. Tveit will be preaching, meeting with religious leaders and visiting communities.

In Jamaica, Tveit will offer a sermon during an ecumenical service at the Mandeville Baptist Church in Manchester. He will also meet with the Jamaica Council of Churches, and tour the Little Mount Olivet Basic School.

After participating in a dialogue at the United Theological College of the West Indies, Tveit will offer opening remarks at Webster Memorial United Church for the start of a global consultation commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Decade of the Churches in Solidarity with Women.

Tveit said "The churches here in the Caribbean are known worldwide for their spirituality and worship life. We are in a global ecumenical fellowship where the accountability to one another is nurtured through sharing and learning, but also the openness for critique that can lead to improvement of our lives and of our one world.”

Tveit underlined “The pilgrimage is also a journey together to find our common self-respect and to see how we are contributing to the justice and peace of the world through our practice of our Christian faith, hope and love. We should not underestimate what we can do together.”

In Barbados, Tveit will participate in a dialogue with the House of Bishops of the Church in the Province of the West Indies, and will preach during an ecumenical service at St Michael’s Cathedral.

In Trinidad, the Presbyterian Church of Trinidad and Tobago will host a meeting with a WCC delegation at Morton House in Tunapuna.

In Antigua, Tveit will preach at the Moravian Church, then meet with the Antigua Christian Council, as well as government officials.
