The World Council of Churches (WCC) Executive Committee is meeting from 20-26 November at the Bossey Ecumenical Institute with a packed agenda that includes many important organizational decisions and discussions.

The Executive Committee will be preparing for the Central Committee meeting that will occur 18-24 March 2020.

Planning for the upcoming WCC 11th Assembly, to be held from 8-16 September 2021 in Karlsruhe, Germany, is also on the agenda of the Executive Committee and they will discuss both programmatic and budget aspects of the assembly. A special communication strategy for youth will be presented, as well as a symbol for the assembly. Executive Committee members will also discuss administration and logistics preparations for the assembly.

In addition, the Executive Committee will review programme plans and budgets for 2020, and various WCC commissions will offer their reports as well. Documents to be discussed include a revised ecumenical diakonia document; report from the Reference Group on the Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace; Overcoming racism, Racial Discrimination and Xenophobia; Communication Update; Update on Health and Healing; report on Green Village as well as a report from the Human Sexuality Reference Group. The ongoing work on evaluation of ecumenical initiatives will be presented as well as a proposal for a pre-assembly programme evaluation.

The Executive Committee will also receive the address by the moderator Dr Agnes Abuom and the report of the general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit on the theme “The One Human Family”.

The Executive Committee will discuss the revised Gender Justice Policy, make the decisions related to the strategy for the Green Village project, and discuss public issues statements in response to current situations.

Archbishop Abune Aregawi Melese from the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church offered the reflection on the theme Hope in the opening prayer in the chapel at the Bossey Ecumenical Institute.
