The upcoming World Council of Churches (WCC) assembly in Karlsruhe, Germany, was on the agenda of a recent meeting of the Conference of European Churches in Finland. Dr Marc Witzenbacher, the local WCC assembly coordinator, talked about the organizational process of the gathering, and also invited European churches to have significant participation in the assembly.

Ecumenical officers and secretaries in theology from the Conference of European Churches met from 24-26 September under the theme “Together in Hope and Witness,” a theme that resonates with the WCC assembly theme, “Christ’s love moves the world to reconciliation and unity.”

Participants also discussed and developed better cooperation between the Conference of European Churches and partners with churches of migrational background. The ecumenical officers shared their churches’ experience of living together with migrant or minorities’ churches.

The WCC was represented by Rev. Dr Benjamin Simon, professor at the Ecumenical Institute of Bossey, as well as Dr Ani Ghazaryan Drissi, programme executive for the Faith and Order Commission. During the meeting, the WCC representatives gave a thematic reflection on migration and ecclesiology.
