Commemorating the International Day of Peace on 21 September, the Ecumenical Network of South Sudan sent a message to the Uganda Joint Christian Council and to other organizations and communities who have hosted refugees.
“We would like to express our solidarity, knowing quite well your ever-commendable efforts towards your support for the people of South Sudan,” reads the statement. “You have been true ambassadors of the love of Christ.”

Host churches and communities have given people hope, the statement reflects. “As faith leaders, we cherish the sanctity of life and the protection of human dignity,” reads the text. “We believe that the humanitarian crisis in South Sudan can only be resolved if South Sudanese leaders embrace true peace and love for their people and nation.”

The statement also calls upon South Sudanese leaders who have a moral obligation to end the violence and ensure continued progress towards peace, stability and justice.
