Liberia hosts event commemorating the WCC’s 70th anniversary

01 October 2018

On 21 September, an event unfolded in Liberia to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the World Council of Churches (WCC).

Held in conjunction with other civil society organizations observing the International Day of Peace in Monrovia, people gathered for a ceremony and a parade.

The event was organized through the ecumenical youth organization of the Liberia Council of Churches (LCC). Each member denomination was asked to print about 50 T-shirts marking the 70th anniversary.

The crowd ended up at the Monrovia City Hall where a special statement was read on behalf of the LCC by Lutheran Bishop D. Jensen Seyenkulo. Reflecting on the theme of the WCC’s founding Assembly in 1948, “Man’s Disorder and God’s Design,” Bishop Seyenkulo stated “that it is only in the light of God’s design that with His help we can tackle the world’s disorder and the church’s disorder.”

The LCC general assembly will run from 28 November-1 December 2018 in Monrovia under the theme “Consolidating National Reconciliation and Unity: An Imperative for Sustainable Growth and Development.”
