A delegation from the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) is visiting the World Council of Churches (WCC) on 26-27 October for an ecumenical learning experience that includes prayers with students from the Bossey Ecumenical Institute, an introduction and overview of the work of the WCC, a meeting with the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), and a guided tour of the Ecumenical Centre.
The EKD delegation will also share reflections and insights with WCC leadership about different facets of the Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace, as well as learning opportunities at Bossey and how those are shaping the pilgrimage as well as other global trends in Christianity.
The EKD, which has been ecumenically engaged with the WCC for 70 years, will host the WCC 11th Assembly in 2021.
Other visitors were also welcomed at the WCC this week. A group from the Church of Norway held a special study day to learn more about the WCC’s work, as well as the work of LWF and the ACT Alliance.
Representatives of WCC member churches in Malawi met with general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit and deputy general secretary Prof. Dr Isabel Apawo Phiwi, herself a Malawi citizen, on Thursday.
The new secretary of the Global Christian Forum, Rev. Dr Casely Essamuah, also conducted his first official visit to the WCC.
Rev. Gunnar Mägi, church relations manager at the United Bible Societies (UBS), also visited the WCC to follow up on the UBS Leadership Summit, as well as plan for the upcoming WCC Commission on World Mission and Evangelism meeting in Helsinki in May.
