Christian and Muslim religious leaders, together with Anglican and Greek evangelical churches, marked the International Day of Peace on 21 September in Cyprus by observing a Minute of Silence at noon.

The theme of this year’s International Day of Peace is “The Right to Peace - The Universal Declaration of Human Rights at 70,” a theme that celebrates the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted in Paris on 10 December 1948.

The Moment of Silence in Cyprus was organized by the Office of the Religious Track of the Cyprus Peace Process (RTCYPP) under the auspices of the Embassy of Sweden.

The RTCYPP is also inviting people to send their ideas, stories, resources and photos throughout the period leading to Human Rights Day on 10 December to illustrate how individuals and families marked the International Day of Peace.

People who respond can answer, in creative ways, the question “What does the right to peace mean to you?”

In social media, RTCYPP is promoting the hashtags #peaceday and #standup4humanright.
