Latin America is one of the most unequal regions in the world in terms of income and living conditions. At the same time, the region has strong religious traditions and churches.

Strong currents within these traditions have promoted social justice and given a voice to marginalized groups.

Young people are most affected by the main social challenges: poverty, unemployment, discrimination, corruption, and migration.

The seminar will address topics linked to the engagement of Latin American churches in social justice issues:

  • The role of churches in promoting equality and social justice
  • The church as the voice of the marginalized
  • Religion, ethics and poverty
  • Religion and politics in Latin America
  • The role of young people and youth organizations in promoting social justice

The main resource for this seminar will be the experiences of the participants themselves. A facilitator will help to articulate, share and discuss these experiences.

The seminar is coordinated by Carla Khijoyan, programme executive for Youth Engagement in the Ecumenical Movement.
