Bei jeder großen Tagung des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) arbeiten die Stewards wie ein geöltes Getriebe und tragen dazu bei, dass Tagungen wie die des Zentralausschusses reibungslos ablaufen. Doch es ist auch eine lehrreiche Erfahrung für die jungen ökumenischen Menschen.

La esperanza y el compromiso fueron los aspectos centrales del informe que la región de África presentó al Comité Central del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI) el 26 de junio. Como es habitual durante estas reuniones, los miembros del Comité Central, los presidentes, los asesores, los stewards y el personal de cada región se reunieron para orar, compartir e identificar las cuestiones que afectan la vida y el testimonio de las iglesias de su región.

“We carry the cross with dignity and hope.” These were the opening words as Middle East Christians stood to bear witness at the World Council of Churches central committee meeting, to the burdens and challenges – but also the resilience – that they live on a daily basis in the land where Christianity was born. 

Hoffnung und Engagement beherrschen den Bericht, den das regionale Treffen Afrika am 26. Juni dem ÖRK-Zentralausschuss vorlegte. Wie bei diesen Tagungen üblich, trafen sich Zentralausschussmitglieder, Beraterinnen und Berater, Stewards und Mitarbeitende aus jeder Region zum Gebet und zum Austausch, um Themen herauszuarbeiten, die das Leben und Zeugnis der Kirchen in der jeweiligen Region beschäftigen.

By far the largest region, both in terms of population and geographical size, the Asia region faces an array of pertinent issues for the churches to address and engage in. Stretching from Iran in the west to Japan in the east and from Nepal in the north to New Zealand in the south, the region encompasses a wide range of cultures and religions.

Hope and commitment were central in the report that the Africa region presented to the WCC central committee on 26 June. As is customary during these meetings, central committee members, advisors, stewards, and staff from each region met for prayer and sharing and to identify issues affecting the life and witness of the churches in their region.
