In a world crying out for justice and peace, the theme of the 2022 assembly of the World Council of Churches (WCC), “Christ’s love moves the world to reconciliation and unity,” speaks of hope for a future in which resources are shared, inequalities are addressed and all can enjoy dignity, according to a new publication reflecting on the assembly theme.

Während fast seines gesamten Erwachsenenlebens war Konrad Raiser auf einem ökumenischen Weg unterwegs. Der ehemalige ÖRK-Generalsekretär spricht in seiner neusten Veröffentlichung „The Challenge of Transformation: An Ecumenical Journey“ über diesen Pilgerweg. Am 5. Februar, kurz nach Raisers 80. Geburtstag, trafen sich in Genf verschiedene Generationen, Konfessionen und Nationalitäten zur Diskussion über das eben erschienene Buch.

Rev. Dr Konrad Raiser has been on an ecumenical journey for most of his adult life, which spans 80 years. The former WCC general secretary relates some of this pilgrimage in his newest publication, “The Challenge of Transformation: An Ecumenical Journey.” On 5 February, shortly after Raiser’s birthday, ecumenical experts from different generations, confessions and continents met in Geneva to discuss the newest publication by the man who led the WCC from 1993 to 2003.

El Rev. Dr. Konrad Raiser, de 80 años, ha recorrido un camino ecuménico durante la mayor parte de su vida adulta. El ex secretario general del CMI relata una parte de esta peregrinación en su publicación más reciente, “The Challenge of Transformation: An Ecumenical Journey”. El 5 de febrero, poco después del cumpleaños de Raiser, expertos ecuménicos de diferentes generaciones, confesiones y continentes se reunieron en Ginebra para hablar de la nueva publicación.

Les 80 années de la vie du pasteur Konrad Raiser ont été en grande partie marquées par un cheminement œcuménique. L’ancien secrétaire général du COE rappelle des éléments de ce pèlerinage dans son dernier ouvrage intitulé «Le Défi de la transformation, un cheminement œcuménique». Le 5 février, des spécialistes de l’œcuménisme appartenant à différentes générations, à diverses confessions, et venant de différents continents se sont retrouvés à Genève pour débattre du récent ouvrage de celui qui a dirigé le COE de 1993 à 2003.

The World Council of Churches has welcomed the signing of two ecumenical statements by the World Communion of Reformed Churches in which it seeks to overcome divisions of the past and to work with other Christian communions for unity and common witness.

World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit joined others in congratulating Prof. Jürgen Moltmann for receiving an honorary doctorate of divinity degree on 5 April from the Theological Faculty of Pretoria University, South Africa.

"Günther Gassmann's life and work reflect the ecumenical ideals of theological reflection based deeply in careful historical understanding of the Christian tradition, combined with sincere and open-minded work to address and overcome the historic divisions within the church”, wrote the general secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC), Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, upon the passing of Prof. Dr Günther Gassmann, on 11 January.

Die Gebetswoche für die Einheit der Christen, die traditionell vom 18. bis zum 25. Januar oder in der Zeit um Pfingsten gefeiert wird, findet dieses Jahr unter der Schirmherrschaft der Arbeitsgemeinschaft Christlicher Kirchen (ACK) statt. Da 2017 das Jahr des Reformationsgedenkens ist, geht es beim Motto der Gebetswoche um das Vermächtnis der Reformation und den gegenwärtigen Geist der Versöhnung in Christus.

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, celebrated worldwide from 18-25 January, will be hosted this year by the Council of Christian Churches in Germany (ACK). As 2017 marks the commemoration of the Reformation, the week of prayer will reflect on the legacy of the Reformation and the current spirit of reconciliation in Christ.

La Semana de Oración por la Unidad de los Cristianos, que se celebra del 18 al 25 de enero, será organizada este año por el Consejo de Iglesias Cristianas en Alemania (ACK). Dado que 2017 será un año para conmemorar la Reforma, la Semana de Oración reflexionará sobre el legado de la Reforma y el actual espíritu de la reconciliación en Cristo.
