Rev. Dr. Karen Georgia A. Thompson is the General Minister and President of the United Church of Christ (UCC), serving as the denomination’s spiritual and executive leader. Elected in 2023, she is the first woman and the first woman of African descent to serve in this role. She holds a Doctor of Ministry from Seattle University, a Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary, and a Master of Public Administration from North Carolina Central University. In October 2025, Rev. Thompson was elected President of the World Communion of Reformed Churches, further reflecting her longstanding commitment to ecumenical and global church leadership. She is a member of the WCC central and executive committees.
