Rev. Dr Susan DURBER, United Reformed Church, UK
An ordained minister of the United Reformed Church in the UK, Dr. Durber has served local churches as a pastor in the united church. She served as Principal of Westminster in Cambridge, part of the Cambridge Theological Federation (an ecumenical partnership embracing Orthodox, Catholics, Anglicans, Methodists and the Woolf Institute for interfaith dialogue), and as theological advisor for Christian Aid, an agency of the churches in the UK for international development.
Already familiar with the WCC document Baptism, Eucharist and Ministry as a student, she attended the World Conference on Faith and Order in Santiago da Compostela as a younger theologian and a few years later a consultation for younger theologians in Turku, Finland where we were inducted into the ecumenical movement and mentored by those with much experience. Dr. Durber was elected to serve on the Plenary and Standing Commissions on Faith and Order, and as a co-moderator of the study group on Sources of Authority with Metropolitan Hilarion Alfayev. In 2014 Dr. Durber was nominated to be Moderator of the Faith and Order Commission.
During this term, Rev. Dr. Durber served as part of the study group, within the commission, on the work on the church – and has been part of the group beginning planning for a new kind of world conference, Nicaea 2025. A member of the theological study group of the Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace, Rev. Dr. Durber was engaged in WCC pilgrim team visits to Bangladesh, Winnipeg (by Zoom), women in North America (by Zoom), and Armenia. She has written articles for the Ecumenical Review and the International Review of Mission, as well as co-edited a book for the Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace with Professor Fernando Enns. Rev. Dr. Durber served a co-moderator of the drafting group for the unity statement for 11th assembly.
